The Super Bowl is all about team spirit, excitement, and, of course, fun outfits! If you are planning to visit the Super Bowl in the coming season, stand out with my idea of a DIY pom-pom sweatshirt. Let the game of football move in its full enthusiasm while you shine the pavilion with your own cute and creative magic.
Let me walk you through how I made myself a DIY pom-pom sweatshirt for the Super Bowl. Start now; yours will be ready in no time.
Things You’ll Need:
- A plain sweatshirt in your team’s color (or any neutral color if you want the pom-poms to pop)
- Yarn in various colors (choose your team’s colors for extra spirit!)
- Scissors
- A fork (you will get to know why)
- Fabric glue/ a needle and thread
- A ruler/ tape measure (optional)
Step 1: Choose Your Sweatshirt
Start with a comfortable plain sweatshirt, I picked one in my team’s main color, blue. If you prefer a neutral base, pick white, black, or grey, but I recommend going with the team’s colors for extra pride.
Step 2: Make the Pom-Poms
Here, the fun begins. If you have never made Pom-Poms before, don’t worry, it’s surprisingly easy. Just pick your yarn and a fork, and here’s how you will ‘Do It Yourself’:
- Cut a piece of yarn about 6 inches long.
- Place the yarm between the fork’s middle prongs and wrap it around it about 40-50 times. The more times you wrap, the fuller your pom-pom will be. For a medium size, 45 wraps do the trick.
- Once you have wrapped the yarn, take that 6-inch piece from Step 1 and tie it tightly around the middle of the yarn bundle.
- Now, softly slide the yarn off the fork and use scissors to cut the loops on both ends. Trim the edges to get an excellent shape and have a fluffy little pom-pom.
- Repeat this process until you have enough pom-poms to decorate your sweatshirt. I did mine with 10 pom-poms in different colors; you can choose to do as many as you can.
Step 3: Plan Your Pom-Pom Placement
Lay your sweatshirt on a table and casually lay the pom-pomps wherever you want them. Go as bold or as subtle as you want. You can place them all on the sides of the sweatshirt, on the back to make a heart, scattered on the front, or whichever way you like.
Step 4: Attach the Pom-Poms
Once you have decided on the layout, you can use fabric glue or sew. Fabric glue is quick and easy, whereas sewing keeps it strong for a long time.
- For gluing, dab a small amount of glue on the bottom of each pom-pom and press it onto the sweatshirt.
- Or, if you prefer sewing, use a needle and thread to securely stitch each pom-pom onto the fabric.
Step 5: Flaunt Your Super Bowl Style
That’s it; your DIY pom-pom sweatshirt is ready for game day. If you picked the fabric glue method, let the sweatshirt dry well before wearing it.
This is a simple DIY project, but it has a huge impact.
