DIY Tassel Napkins

DIY-tassel-napkins

Napkins are an easy way to upgrade a dinner table and tassel napkins. Well, they add just the right touch of charm and personality to any meal. I swear by tassel napkins whether I host a special occasion or try to spruce up everyday dining. The best part? These DIY tassel napkins are affordable and stylish and can impress your guests in numerous ways.

I’m excited to share this tutorial with you, so let’s get started!

Gather the Following:

  • Plain fabric (cotton or linen) napkins
  • Embroidery thread in different colors
  • Scissors
  • A ruler
  • A needle or fabric glue

Step 1: Pick Your Napkins

Start with a basic set of napkins. Or, if you want to go more crafty, cut the fabric into squares. I went with simple white cotton napkins because they provide a clean, neutral backdrop.

Step 2: Make Your Tassels

Tassels are the star of this project, so the make-fun starts here. They are super easy to make, and I like using embroidery thread. Here’s how you can make them:

  • Take the embroidery thread and wrap it around your fingers 15–20 times. You can go more or less depending on how thick you want your tassels to be.
  • Slide the looped thread off your fingers and tie a small piece of thread around one end, creating the “head” of the tassel.
  • Use scissors to cut the loops open at the opposite end, giving the tassel that loose, fringe-like appearance.
  • Trim the ends to make them even, and here’s a cute little tassel.
  • Make enough tassels for each napkin, either one for each corner or many to just play around the edges.

Step 3: Attach the Tassels

Now comes the part where you transform your plain napkins into something special. You’ve got two options here: sew or glue. I’ve tried both methods, and each has its perks.

  • Sewing Method: If you want a more durable, long-lasting attachment, grab your needle and thread and sew the tassel onto the corner of the napkin.
  • Fabric Glue Method: If you’re short on time, fabric glue is best. Dab a bit of glue on the tassel’s head and press it firmly onto the corner of the napkin. Hold it there for a few seconds to ensure it sticks.

Step 4: Style Your Napkins

Once your tassels are attached, style your napkins. You can fold the napkins traditionally or roll them up and place them in napkin rings. For my set, I went with warm, earthy tones, mustard yellow, soft coral, and a deep teal, complementing my dining table’s rustic vibe.

Step 5: Use and Enjoy

That’s it; your tassel napkins are ready to grace your table. I used mine at a casual outdoor dinner, and they were a big hit. It’s amazing how a small, handmade touch can make an ordinary meal feel a little more special. And the best part? These napkins are reusable and washable, so you can enjoy them over and over again.

You’ll love the results, and your guests will, too.
